Trick Shots

Trick shots in How to Fish add killscore modifiers to a creature kill and can increase its sale value. For 360 no scope, face an easy target, turn a full circle, then land the killing shot without aiming down sights. For Impressive, combine several modifiers and reach a displayed 5x killscore; a spin alone is a different goal. Use the kill feedback to see which actions counted.

Reviewed 2026-10-21. Evidence scope: Steam goals checked 2026-10-21; practice methods cross-checked in August 2026 player guides, including a 1.0.4 run, rather than a new 1.1.3 playtest. This guide is updated when key route details can be checked.

01Choose between a 360 finish, a 5x score and a better sale

The store advertises trick shots as a way to earn more money. Steam gives the two skill achievements separate conditions: 360 no scope requires that finishing move, while Impressive requires a 5x killscore. Decide which one you are attempting before adding extra actions to a shot.

  • 360 no scope: practice the full turn and an unscoped killing shot on an ordinary creature.
  • Impressive: build a combination of killscore modifiers and check that the result reaches 5x.
  • Higher sale value: finish the creature stylishly, keep the resulting catch and inspect the merchant offer before selling.

02Practice 360 no scope with one easy target

Spatison and pogiloirak describe a full rotation followed by a kill without using a scope. Start with a gun you can aim from the hip and a creature it can finish in one shot. Their guide suggests a laser sight as an aiming aid; use one if lining up the finish is the part you keep missing.

  1. Stand where you can turn freely, face an ordinary target and note the direction you need to return to.
  2. Keep out of aim-down-sights mode. Turn through a full circle, bring the target back into view and fire the killing shot from the hip.
  3. Check the kill feedback and Steam achievement. If it only damages the creature, choose a weaker target or improve the finishing weapon before practising the turn again.
  4. Repeat the same setup until the turn and shot are consistent. Add other score conditions only after this finish works.
Low sensitivity makes a full turn awkward+

Charlie Pork reports completing the rotation with two quick mouse swipes on 1.0.4. Try the movement before taking the shot, keeping the same target as your reference. This is a historical player technique; there is no measured timing window published here.

03Build toward Impressive by checking one modifier at a time

Spatison and pogiloirak list headshot, no scope, last bullet, airborne, overpower and close-range conditions alongside the 360 modifier. Use these as actions to test, then read the names and total shown by your game. Adding a jump to a hipfire headshot is a useful practice progression; it is not a promise of an automatic 5x result.

For another approach, Charlie Pork reports earning Impressive by shooting a flying seagull in the head from the hip with a strong ranged weapon. A laser sight helped aim, and a single-shot finish added another condition. This is a documented 1.0.4 method to try with later gear; check your own result after the kill.

  1. First confirm a simple hipfire kill and look for its no-scope feedback.
  2. Aim for the head on the next comparable target. Keep the weapon and other conditions the same so you can tell whether the headshot registered.
  3. Add a reported condition you can repeat: jump before the finish, use the last round in the magazine, or perform the full turn.
  4. Read the total after each attempt. Keep a successful combination, replace an action that did not register and stop when the killscore reaches 5x and Impressive unlocks.

04Check killscore before comparing cash rewards

The useful feedback is the score on the kill and the value of the resulting item. Charlie Pork describes an item inspection showing Value, Cooking multiplier, Weight and Killscore; the default inspection key in that guide is F. Use your current Inspect binding if you have changed controls.

For a useful money comparison, sell similar catches in the same condition. Cooking, weight and creature type can change the offer, so comparing a cooked rare catch with a plain small fish will not show what the trick shot contributed. Record the score and sale offer together when deciding whether a setup is worth repeating.

  • The creature survived: the attempt needs a killing shot; settle the weapon or target choice before changing your spin.
  • The kill counted but 360 did not: retry a full turn and hipfire finish without entering the sights.
  • 360 unlocked but Impressive did not: inspect the total and add another repeatable modifier; these achievements have separate conditions.
  • Repeated misses make the run slower: practise on ordinary targets with spare ammunition, then return to fishing or the active quest when you need reliable progress.

What this guide can confirm

  • Official: Steam confirms the money feature and the separate 360 no scope and 5x Impressive goals; achievement conditions were checked on 2026-10-21.
  • Community: the practice actions come from named player guides. Charlie Pork labels the guide outdated and records a 1.0.4 playthrough; Spatison and pogiloirak last updated their guide on 2026-08-30.
  • Editorial method: isolate one action, inspect its feedback and then combine successful actions. Historical modifier values are not presented as a current guaranteed formula.
